Krista Wollny

Biography

Krista is a pediatric critical care nurse, pursuing a PhD in epidemiology at the University of Calgary. Her research focuses on patient safety in pediatric critical care, and preventing adverse events. She is using data from the Virtual Pediatric Systems database, which contains PICU admissions at hospitals across North America. Using a variety of epidemiological methods, she is exploring variables associated with unplanned extubations (the accidental removal of a breathing tube) in pediatric critical care. Her research aims to inform quality improvement and patient safety initiatives to prevent these events. Krista is also interested in education, and has led a scoping review on clinician scientist training programs in collaboration with CCHCSP. She currently teaches in the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Calgary, and has taught pediatric nursing, pathophysiology and pharmacology courses. Krista has been involved with CCHCSP since 2019, when she was invited to attend the Annual Conference as a Rising Researcher, and is thrilled to be participating in the PILLAR program.
