Richard Keijzer

Biography

Richard Keijzer Dr. Richard Keijzer is a Pediatric Surgeon-Scientist and the Thorlakson Chair in Surgical Research at the University of Manitoba. He serves as Associate Dean (Research) at the Max Rady College of Medicine and leads a research lab focused on congenital surgical anomalies and their outcomes, particularly congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH). His work integrates clinical practice, translational research on microRNAs and circular RNAs, and academic leadership. Dr. Keijzer has secured over $5 million in external funding and holds multiple patents related to CDH biomarkers and therapies. He has mentored numerous students and fellows, many of whom have received prestigious awards. He has published over 130 peer-reviewed articles and several book chapters. He is actively involved in national and international research collaborations, editorial boards, and leadership development programs. His career goal is to improve pediatric surgical outcomes through bedside-to-bench research, education, and innovation. Dr. Keijzer was the first Pediatric Surgeon-Scientist funded in the Canadian Child Health Clinician Scientist Program before it became ENRICH.
