Biography

Alam is currently pursuing a combined graduate and medicine degree and is part of the leaders in medicine program at the University of Calgary. Her research interests include maternal-child health, especially neonatal health outcomes. She has been involved in various qualitative, mixed-methods and clinical projects in the departments of pediatrics as well as obstetrics and gynaecology. These projects range from access to pediatric consultations via telemedicine, cannabis use during pregnancy, chronic illness and effect on motherhood as well as neurodevelopment outcomes in brain injury (HIE) infants. Her motivation for research stems from her interactions with children and their families, particularly in the NICU as well as her passion for evidence-based advocacy and quality improvement. Outside of her research interests, she enjoys playing and coaching soccer. She was recently able to help her under 4 soccer team score their first goal!
