Dr. Heather Shepherd is an occupational therapist, implementation scientist, and Assistant Professor in the School of Occupational Therapy at Western University. Her research program aims to partner with individuals and communities to co-design programs to keep adolescents engaged in school and sport following concussion. This includes developing a novel peer support program for adolescent girls who have sustained a sport-related concussion and partnering with educators to co-design return-to-school concussion management practices. In addition, she collaborates with powerchair athletes to understand their experiences with injuries, with the goal of developing injury prevention strategies for powerchair sports. Outside of work, she enjoys trail running, multi-day backpacking trips, and cozying up with a good book.
