Helen McCord is a neonatal nurse practitioner and PhD candidate in the Faculty of Health at Dalhousie University. She works in the neonatal intensive care unit at IWK Health in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Her research interests include neonatal pain assessment and management, clinical trials, family-centred care, and knowledge translation. The primary focus of her doctoral research is evaluating intranasal fentanyl as a pain-management intervention for premature infants undergoing retinopathy of prematurity eye examinations. Her broader research and quality-improvement work aims to address important gaps in neonatal care and improve the experiences and outcomes of newborns and their families. Helen hopes to integrate her clinical expertise with rigorous research methods to develop and implement practical, evidence-based interventions in the NICU. Through the ENRICH REACH program, she looks forward to strengthening her research skills, expanding interdisciplinary collaborations, and building an independent program of neonatal research. Outside of work and graduate studies, Helen enjoys a good cup of coffee and spending time with her sons.
