After completing her residency in clinical psychology she joined the University of Calgary as an Assistant Professor of Psychology (2013). She also holds a Professorship in Child Psychology from the Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Institute and is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in Pediatrics. Dr. Tomfohr-Madsen’s research interests are broadly focused in two areas: (1)studying how adverse circumstances in-utero and early childhood (e.g., low socio-economic status, childhood abuse) contribute to the development of illness in children; (2) developing and disseminating interventions in pregnancy that foster resilience and decrease obstetrical and infant risk. She has a particular interest in interventions that focus on improving restorative processes such as stress reduction and sleep.
