Biography

Jennifer Ryan is a Physiotherapist on the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Team at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital and a doctoral student in the Rehabilitation Sciences Institute at the University of Toronto. Jennifer has completed two Bachelors of Science (Life Sciences, Physical Therapy) at Queen’s University, as well as a Master of Science in Rehabilitation Science at the University of Toronto. Her extensive clinical experience working with children with acquired brain injury (ABI) led to her doctoral research which is evaluating transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) as an adjunct to physiotherapy intervention in children and youth with ABI. This feasibility randomized control trial, funded by the Holland Bloorview Centre for Leadership, will evaluate the feasibility of implementing tDCS within an existing inpatient rehabilitation program, the tolerance of tDCS among children and youth with ABI, and the effect of tDCS combined with physiotherapy on recovery of gross motor function.
