Biography

Dr. Nancy Young is a measurement scientist whose research program focuses on helping children contribute to healthy conversations about wellness. She completed her PhD in Medical Science at the University of Toronto and began her career as a Scientist at the Hospital for Sick Children. She was recruited to Laurentian University in 2005 as a Canada Research Chair in Rural and Northern Children’s Health and went on to become the Director of the School of Rural and Northern Health. In 2021, she joined the CHEO Research Institute as a Senior Scientist. Dr. Young leverages science and technology to give children a voice in their own health assessments. She has contributed to the development of several child-centric measures. Since 2009, she has worked in respectful collaboration with Indigenous health leaders and academic scholars to create new processes to measure and respond to the health of First Nations, Inuit and Métis children. She is invested in growing the next generation of clinician-scientists and chairs the Mentorship Program at the CHEO Research Insitute. She enjoys spending her spare time hiking and paddling in the pristine forests and lakes that dot northern Ontario.
