Dr. Lavoie is an Associate Professor in Pediatrics at the University of British Columbia, and Clinician-Scientist at the Child & Family Research Institute in Vancouver. He also works at the Children’s & Women’s Health Centre of BC (C&W) as a staff neonatologist. He completed a medical degree at McGill University and medical residency in pediatrics and neonatal medicine at the CHU Sainte-Justine, University of Montreal and UBC, respectively. Dr. Lavoie’s research program focuses on the development of the immune system in newborns and young infants, and applying this knowledge to find new ways of preventing infections and inflammatory complications of prematurity such as bronchopulmonary dysplasia. He is passionate about his research, and besides water sports, he particularly enjoys working with trainees, supporting them in their growing career. This is a main reason for his involvement in this fantastic CCHCSP as Centre Leader for UBC and the C&W.
