Dr. Sandra (Sandy) Davidge, PhD, FCAHS, FRSC is a Distinguished University Professor at the University of Alberta and is the Executive Director of the Women and Children’s Health Research Institute, Edmonton Canada. From the beginning of graduate school, Dr. Davidge has had the curiosity to better understand the mechanisms for the cardiovascular adaptations that occur in pregnancy and, ultimately, strive to improve pregnancy outcomes. Internationally renowned for her research, Dr. Davidge is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences, as well as a former two-term Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Maternal and Perinatal Cardiovascular Health. Dr. Davidge’s research is focused on understanding maternal vascular complications in preeclampsia as well as developing early intervention/prevention strategies for improving long-term cardiovascular health for both the mother and her offspring. With her team of trainees, for whom she has mentored >40 national and international graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, Dr. Davidge has published over 300 original peer-reviewed manuscripts and review articles. As the Executive Director of of the Women and Children’s Health Research Institute, whose membership is made up of more than 450 leading researchers, Dr. Davidge is bringing academics, clinicians, funding agencies and community leaders together to achieve the vision of improved outcomes for women and children through health research. On a personal note, Sandy enjoys spending time with her family, riding her horses and skiing during the long winter months in Alberta.
