Dr. Marsha Campbell-Yeo, a certified neonatal nurse practitioner, is an Assistant Professor at the School of Nursing, Dalhousie University and a Clinician Scientist at the IWK Health Centre (cross appointment in the Department of Pediatrics and Psychology & Neuroscience). Dr. Marsha Campbell-Yeo’s research lab is based in the Centre for Pediatric Pain Research at the IWK Health Centre. Her research lab, primarily funded by the Canadian Institute of Health Research and Canadian Foundation of Innovation, entitled “Mechanisms, Outcomes, and Mobilization of maternally-Led Interventions for Newborn Care” (MOM-LINC), provides an interdisciplinary research environment for the development of innovative and non-invasive healthcare interventions that engage mothers and families in the management and care of neonates. She focuses on three main areas: a) developing a better understanding of the mechanisms underlying the efficacy of maternally-led interventions; b) examination of immediate and sustained effectiveness of maternal-led interventions to improve outcomes in at-risk infants related to stress, pain and neurodevelopment; and c) Improving uptake of interventions by both parents and health care providers through e-Health technology. Her work encompasses original work (primarily randomized controlled trials), knowledge synthesis, knowledge translation and advocacy. She has published over 50 peer-reviewed papers and has been recognized for her contributions to the field via numerous training, leadership, and research awards. Most notably, she is the recipient of a Canadian Child Health Clinician Scientist (CCHCSP) Career Development Award (2015-2019), Canadian Pain Society Early Career Award (2015), Excellence in Nursing Research Award, College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia (2014); Global Health REAL Award (2013); and CIHR fellowship (2008-2012). She is a mentor in the Pain in Child Health (PICH) training program. Dr. Campbell-Yeo is the Secretary on the Board of Directors for the Canadian Pain Society, and is an elected Council Member for the IASP Special Interest Group on Pain in Childhood (2015-2020). Dr. Campbell-Yeo was a Mayday Pain and Society Fellow (2014-2015).Dr. Campbell-Yeo is strongly committed to improving the everyday care of infants and their families through innovative knowledge translation strategies. She has given a talk on transforming newborn care through parent touch and developed a YouTube video to help parents reduce their baby’s pain associated with common needle related procedures. She has been a key contributor to the conception and conduct of the “It Doesn’t Have to Hurt” social media initiative, led by her colleague Dr. Christine Chambers. She is the proud mother of two children.
